The Inaugural New York City Paralympic Sports Track and Field Open at Icahn Staduim will hopefully attract about 200 athletes with various physical disabilities from around New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.

 

The meet would be broken down into divisions for athletes who use wheelchairs, blind athletes, athletes who are ambulatory and use a cane or other device, and dwarf athletes. There is a standard procedure for classifying athletes that we will use.

 

The following events will be offered:

50 meters for junior athletes

100 meters

200 meters

400 meters

800 meters for experienced athletes that can provide a seed time

 

long jump

triple jump for blind athletes

shot put

discus

javelin--soft tip for junior and unexperienced athletes

 

Blind athletes will have to bring guide runners or we will provide one for them on meet day, but otherwise the other athletes race or throw unassisted.
