Cloudy Skies, Cool Weather & an occasional sprinkle couldn’t dampen the spirits of the 250+ athletes who competed in the 14 Annual New England Invitational Sled Hockey Tournament.  When players weren’t competing on the ice they could be found outside, playing street hockey in the outdoor rink or enjoying what little sunshine there was and enjoying Amelia’s Garden, which was in full bloom.  This was the 10th year in a row that Amelia Park has hosted the Tournament.  Over 100 volunteers helped with the 3 day event, refereeing, and acting as Time Keepers & Scorers, serving ice cream Friday night & food at the Cookout on Saturday and the Barbeque on Sunday.

There was plenty of Good Hockey also this weekend.  16 teams, 8 Adult & 8 Junior, competed this year. The “Adopt a Sled Team’ program with the South Middle School was a huge success.  This was the 3rd year that we matched teams in Pools based on their competitive level, and this system continues to it work very well.  5 games ended in a Tie, 8 games were won by 1 goal & 3 games were won by only 2 goals.  Two Teams that were seeded 4th wound up placing 3rd in the Tournament by beating the 3rd Place Team in their Pool on Sunday.  The Buffalo Sabres went undefeated in the Tournament to win the Pool A Championship for a 2nd year in a row.  The CT Wolf Pack also went undefeated to win the Pool B Championship.  The Vineland Sled Stars beat the Bennett Blazers to win the Junior Pool A Championship & the Atlantic Hammerheads beat the Springfield Sliders to win the Junior Pool B Championship.  This was the 1st time in 10 years that the Springfield Sliders made it to the Championship Round.

Thanks to all the players, coaches and family members who attended the tournament.  We hope you had as much fun this past weekend as we had planning and putting on the tournament.

Our grateful thanks to the Referees, Timekeepers & Volunteers at Amelia Park who work so hard to make this such an enjoyable event.
