The Indoor Wheelchair Soccer Division 2 National Championship was held at Smithtown (NY) East High School on November 12 & 13th, 2011. The 5 teams in the tournament who participated consisted of the Connecticut Breakers, Massachusetts Wild Wheels, Long Island Strikers, New York Titans and the Long Island Sharks. It turned out to be an all Long Island Championship Game with the Long Island Strikers winning their 2nd title in 3 years.  Of course it wasn’t easy. The first game between the Sharks  and Strikers went into overtime and ended in penalty shots. Goal Tender Bill Hannigan won the game in the 9th round of the shootout.

So with the buildup of the first game the Championship didn’t disappoint. Again with the help of Rookie star Edy Lopez, the Sharks again pushed the Strikers to the brink with 4 minutes left in the game. The Sharks led 5 – 4 but the Strikers Charlie Ruf, scored a beautiful backdoor bounce to tie the game at 5 - 5. As the tension mounted and the two teams went back and forth in the game, the Strikers all-star Ahmad Karimzada bounced an amazing pass past the Sharks goal tender with 18 seconds left in the game, giving the Strikers the victory and the National Championship.
